At Ortrander Eisenhütte, our forklift terminal is used in a demanding production environment. Instead of laboriously identifying containers using accompanying slips, drivers now receive all relevant information directly on their terminal.
Today, containers at Ortrander Eisenhütte are equipped with RFID transponders that contain all relevant information. At the same time, the forklifts themselves are equipped with state-of-the-art RFID and RTLS technology: while the load is recorded via RFID, the position is determined via the RTLS system on the forklift. This allows the position of the parked container to be clearly identified and assigned.
As soon as a container is picked up, the terminal displays which object is on the fork and which task is associated with it—for example, storage or further transport to production.
When the load is set down, the system automatically records the position of the forklift and reports the storage location in the block storage area back to the ERP. If a container is placed in the wrong location, the driver receives immediate feedback.
Order distribution has also been optimized: accepted delivery orders disappear for other drivers. A map overview also shows available storage locations and containers ready for pickup.
